January 22, 2016 Ice Fishing Report

The Mille Lacs ice fishing season is finally ramping up. With the ice thickness around twelve inches across the lake most resorts have been pulling houses steady trying to salvage the remainder of our already short winter season. If your down in the Isle bay area ice has been found as thick as 18 inches. The great news is the bite for Walleye, Perch, and Tulibee has been very good. Most of the Walleye we have been catching are 13-17 inches in length. The perch range in size from 6-13 inches and you have to catch quite a few to pull the bigger keepers out. the Tulibee just seem to move around all day if your fishing off the deep edges of structure. Most of my luck has been on vertical jigging spoons tipped with 1/2 a minnow or larvae. Perch color or gold perch colors worked well this week. Many of the Walleye would rocket up off the bottom as far as 6 foot to slam the baits. We were jigging very aggressively. The Tulibee were mostly caught on a dropper hook under a swedish-pimpel. The fishing has been phenomenal and if you love tons of ice fishing action get here soon while the fish are biting.
