Mille Lacs Fishing Report
The bite here on the big pond has been GOOD. We’ve been seeing good numbers of walleye in all sizes, no shortage on the big girls. We have also still been seeing some hefty pike coming out of the bays and nice jumbo perch though, the perch report is that they’ve been picky eaters. Most ice on the south end is between 17-20 inches however; warm weather has created cracking and heaving so checking in with your access point is a must. Pressure ridges, cracks, and shallow reefs or areas of current can be dangerous spots making it important to use resort roads and accesses.
The Walleye seem to be favoring a smaller minnow. Tip a plain hook on a set line with a fat head or small shiner. The jig color and and action has depended on the day so be sure to bring a variety with you. Spoons seem to entice well. Silver and blue have been producing along with chartreuse and the go to favorite gold or perch/gold. Walleye have been found in good numbers off deep structure but, they’re also showing up in the bays. They’re swimming and biting just about everywhere. Shallow structure is best during low light hours with being mobile the key to success throughout the day.
Snowmobile trails have great base with this warm up and re-freeze. We need a good 3-4″ of snow to get them in good condition. We’re crossing our fingers over here for lots of the white and fluffies!
