Mille Lacs Walleye Fishing
This week Governor Dayton and the Minnesota DNR announced that Walleye fishing will be closed on Mille Lacs beginning September 6th 2016. With this news we have been fielding a lot of questions. The media does too good of a job making it sound and seem the lake will be closed to all anglers and fishing, which is by far not the case! So do not be deterred. Fishing has been better on the lake this year than it has in a long time. Those who have been up fishing know its no secret the numbers and size of fish coming out of Mille Lacs this year. The Lake is easily one of the best in Minnesota for your chance at that trophy/lifetime fish in all species categories the lake holds.
Luckily little changes for us. We can still fish, targeting bass, perch, and pike. Muskie fishing should also be fantastic come fall! We will target shallower water for the great bass fishing and will continue to practice catch and release on the Smallmouth Bass. No matter where we fish, we are still going to catch Walleye, there are far too many and the bite has been too good and too aggressive all year for them to completely avoid our lines. We only anticipate fishing to get better as the fall season moves in. As we have all year we will continue to carefully play and release fish and our guides, captains, and first mates will help clients with this. We will continue to take trips as usual so don’t be afraid to get in on the action! Remember, making a memorable trip isn’t measured by how many fish you can keep!
